Erasmus in Schools - March 2015

On 30th of March 2015 two international students (Wael and Zalán) took part in project Erasmus in Schools, which is event covered by SocialErasmus. They visited local pupils of the elementary school Starozagorská 8 in Košice. The ESN Košice coordinator for this event was Mirka Hroncová and Soňa Géciová.

To remind, SocialErasmus offers opportunities for international students to get closer to the local community where they can engage in volunteer activities. The aim is to enrich society through international students and it has three pillars which the project focuses on: charity, environment, education. Erasmus in Schools is the project connected to the third pillar – education.

Now, let me tell you about our afternoon in elementary school in Košice. As it was mentioned, two international students came – Wael from Syria, and Zalán from Romania. Both of them had a short presentation about their country, their experiences and impressions from Slovakia, and at the end also about their Easter traditions, because it was a few days before Easter.

The international students spent one hour presenting and discussing with local pupils in Starozagorská elementary school. It is necessary to underline very good level of English of these pupils, in spite they were only 4th and 5th grade. We didn't have problems with communication, and the children weren't shy at all as we expected they will be. They asked a lot of questions but mostly were interested in Arabic language and Dracula who is known in Romania. We had a lot of fun all time, so  mission of this day was accomplished.
