TRANSPORT IN KOŠICE

The city of Košice has very good connections between all its neighborhoods. You can go perfectly from north to south and from east to west in a maximum time of 45 minutes and you can get to the city center in an average time of 15 minutes. The most used methods to move around Kosice are the following buses, trams, Bolt taxi and e-scooters.

Bus and tram

The bus and the tram are interconnected, both run by Dopravný podnik mesta Košice - DPMK. You can change from bus to tram without an additional cost. You can find current ticket prices here.

Our advice: Download the Ubian app or the Antik Smartway app to buy tickets easily through your phone with a discount. In these apps, you can also search for routes. While Ubian is more practical in planning your route and enables you to add money or a monthly ticket to your ISIC card, Antik also gives you the opportunities to use scooters or bikes. Decide what's better for you or try them both.

E-scooters and e-bikes

E-scooter, e-bike, e-moto..... another great option to get around the city in summer. These are the options:

It's important to note that the speed is tightly limited in the historic center of the city. Also, it's forbidden to ride on a scooter for two people at once or drunk.

Taxi

Finally, the most conventional and the most comfortable option of transport.

  • Bolt - the most used taxi service in Košice, available in app. Prices vary according to demand and distance.
  • Hopin - another convenient option available in app. More stable prices, but lower availability.
  • Easy Taxi - taxi with a stable low price, available only by call

TRANSPORT IN SLOVAKIA

Train

Train transport in slovakia is held mostly by Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko - ZSSK. You can search for a route or buy your ticket here or in the app Ideme vlakom.

What's interesting about our train transport is the free fare for students. How does it work? You need to go with your activated ISIC card to the train station and ask for a white card for trains for free (“vlaky zadarmo”).

After receiving your white card, you still need to buy your ticket. We recommend doing it in advance before your trip as there's a limited amount of free tickets for fast trains on a route of Bratislava-Košice. In case you miss this opportunity, you can still buy a discounted ticket. Remember to always have your cards on the train with you.

Bus

Sometimes, the only way to explore hidden Slovak gems is to go by bus. There, different rules apply. You can buy your ticket from the bus driver by simply naming your destination and eventually asking for a student ticket. To get a student ticket, you need to show him your ISIC card as well. If you want to get an even better discount, you can pay by your ISIC card which can be recharged through the Ubian app or at the driver. In case you haven't recharged the ISIC card, have your cash prepared as normal card payments are not accepted.
